Mercado el 100
Mexico City's Sunday market for organic food grown within 100 miles of the city
Since 2010Works across the regionValley of Mexico
Mercado el 100 is an independent movement that links more than 50 rural producer families and cooperatives with city eaters, selling only food grown or made within 100 miles of Mexico City. Its Sunday market in Roma Sur runs alongside free talks, a bag-lending scheme and dialogues on food sovereignty, and producers are verified through participatory organic certification.
In 2026 it held a conversation series on women in food systems with CoMercado (Peru), and in August 2025 it hosted its first public Diálogo por la Soberanía Alimentaria. It celebrates its 16th anniversary at the market on 1 November 2026, and part of the proceeds of recent workshops went to a flood-affected farm.
