Bruns Riverkeepers is a grassroots alliance inviting the Byron Shire community to connect with, care for and celebrate its waterways, focused on restoring the Brunswick (Durrumbil) River after the 2022 floods. Its work covers habitat restoration, water quality monitoring, deep listening and connection to the river, and education. It launched in October 2024 with '11 days by the river', a program of free events in Mullumbimby.
Members include traditional custodians, land stewards, fishers, farmers, scientists, bush regenerators, artists, young people, community groups and government agencies. Volunteers restore riverbanks, regenerate riparian vegetation and bring back wetlands. Seed Northern Rivers lists the alliance as one of its flagship collaborative initiatives; launch partners included Brunswick Valley Landcare, OzFish, Reforest Now and Byron Shire Council.
