MakeWay
A Canadian charity building partnerships so nature and communities thrive together
- Home and Livelihood
Since 2000
MakeWay is a Canadian national charity and public foundation, formerly Tides Canada, with staff in almost every province and territory. It builds partnerships so nature and communities can thrive together, offering grantmaking, a shared platform for community projects, advised funds, impact investing and advisory services.
MakeWay began in 2000 on Canada's west coast, supporting First Nations-led conservation agreements in the Great Bear Rainforest, and has since grown to more than 450 staff. It moves around $14 million in grants each year to over 300 community partners. Its work spans healthy lands and waters, Indigenous authority, language and cultural resurgence, shared wealth, Indigenous and transformed food systems, climate action and a fairer charitable sector.
