Miwatj Health Aboriginal Corporation

An independent Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation based in Nhulunbuy, East Arnhem Land, set up in 1992 by Aboriginal leaders so Yolŋu people control their own health services. It provides comprehensive primary health care across communities including Yirrkala, Gunyaŋara, Gapuwiyak, Ramingiṉiŋ, Milingimbi and Galiwin'ku.

Miwatj delivers treatment, prevention, early detection and rehabilitation through clinics, walk-in services and outreach. Its programs include social and emotional wellbeing, mental health, NDIS, renal and public health, and the Yaka Ŋarali smoking program. It employs GPs, remote area nurses, Aboriginal Health Practitioners and community workers, and runs a Yolŋu Workforce Development program.
