Muurrbay Aboriginal Language and Culture Co-operative

Muurrbay Aboriginal Language and Culture Co-operative, in Nambucca Heads NSW, supports Aboriginal people to learn, teach and revitalise their language and culture. It was established in 1986 by Gumbaynggirr Elders, including Aunty Maggie Morris, to revive the Gumbaynggirr language.

Muurrbay now supports coastal language communities from the far north to the central coast of NSW, including Gumbaynggirr, Gathang, Dhanggati, Yaygirr, Bundjalung, Darkinyung, and Awabakal and Wanarruwa. As a Registered Training Organisation it runs accredited language courses, in-person classes and an online Gumbaynggirr course. It produces dictionary-grammars, story books, student workbooks and audio resources with and for communities.
