NASASA supports stokvels · rotating savings and burial clubs where members pool money and draw from it in turn for school fees, funerals, weddings or property. Established in 1988, it registers stokvels, advocates for them with banks and regulators, and runs a member-owned financial primary co-operative. Its founder says more than 11 million South Africans belong to stokvels.
