Started in Sydney in 2015 by Laurie Green, Crop Swap Australia runs free, cashless local meet-ups where people swap surplus homegrown food, seeds, seedlings and home-made goods. Swaps run with councils and community gardens across Sydney, and local Facebook groups keep trades going between meet-ups.
Face-to-face swaps are informal, about 90 minutes, and centre on community, learning and tasting. Recent hosts include Pocket City Farms and Ku-ring-gai Council, which co-hosts a swap at the Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden in October 2026.
