The co-op began in 1993 when mothers from the Homemakers Union Environmental Protection Foundation gathered about a hundred families to buy pesticide-free rice straight from farmers. It became a formal consumer co-operative in 2001 and now runs joint purchasing for more than 80,000 members through dozens of local pickup stations.
Its stated principles are caring for environmental resources, supporting local agriculture, practising joint purchasing, living green and spreading co-operative values. The co-op is registered in Sanchong, New Taipei, and runs a podcast, newsletter and community events.
