Since 2017, residents and the Kaohsiung Wild Bird Society have restored Meinong Lake by clearing invasive plants, improving the water, replanting floating vegetation and building gentle nesting slopes, and the pheasant-tailed jacana now breeds there year-round. Since 2022, Meinong's water-snowflake lotus farmers have run a monthly bird-count patrol and sell jacana-friendly produce under the 護雉蓮盟 label. The project won 2025 CommonWealth City Governance and PwC Sustainable Impact awards.

The Kaohsiung Wild Bird Society formally adopted the site in February 2021 and runs a container workstation by the lake hosting free monthly outreach days, a 'hatching day' event, leg-flag sighting reports and volunteer guiding. About 90% of Taiwan's water-snowflake lotus is grown in Meinong. Documented as an IPSI Satoyama Initiative case study.
