Jawun
Skilled secondments supporting Indigenous-led organisations
- Home and Livelihood
- Community and Voice
Since 2001
Jawun connects corporate, government and philanthropic organisations with Indigenous-led organisations and communities, mainly through skilled staff secondments. It works in twelve regions across Australia, so Indigenous organisations can pursue their own social and economic goals.
Jawun began in Cape York in 2001, founded by Noel Pearson with Westpac and Boston Consulting Group as its first partners. Indigenous partners set their own priorities and Jawun brokers secondees, usually for about six weeks, to help with them. Its regions include Cape York, the East and West Kimberley, Inner Sydney, North East Arnhem Land, Central Australia, the Lower River Murray and the Pilbara. Secondees return to their workplaces with a stronger connection to Indigenous Australia.
