Communities writing People's Charters to redesign UK democracy
- Community and Voice
Our House is a UK democracy project helping communities write People's Charters: lists of demands and actions setting out how they want politics to work. Sports clubs, food banks, faith groups and residents' associations across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are taking part.
The plan has three phases. First, hundreds of communities write local charters. These are then brought together at four National Conventions to make People's Charters for England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Finally, an alliance of political leaders takes the demands into their parties and Parliament, while communities practise people-powered democracy locally. Our House runs a Charter Map, a monthly call for chartists and a charter-building game.
