Founded in 2016 by Karachi engineer Abid Omar, PAQI grew a network of around 150 citizen air monitors across Pakistan, starting with one on his own rooftop. Its data helped a 2017 Lahore High Court case recognise smog as a public health danger, leading Punjab to set up and publish official monitoring.
