Patagonia

An outdoor clothing and gear company founded by Yvon Chouinard in 1973 and based in Ventura, California. Since 1985 it has given 1% of its sales to environmental groups, and in 2022 its ownership passed to a trust and a nonprofit so its profits go to fighting the climate crisis and protecting land.

In September 2022 Chouinard transferred the company's voting stock to the Patagonia Purpose Trust and its non-voting stock to the Holdfast Collective, a nonprofit that puts profits towards climate and land protection. Patagonia also runs Worn Wear, a trade-in and resale program for used gear, and ReCrafted, which makes clothing from scraps of worn-out Patagonia pieces.
