Rancho Mastatal Sustainability Education Center

Rancho Mastatal is a sustainability education centre, working permaculture farm, ecolodge and community in rural Mastatal, Puriscal, founded in 2001. It teaches permaculture design, natural building, agroforestry, fermentation, renewable energy and tropical homesteading through apprenticeships and residential courses, and stewards more than 300 acres of wildlife refuge with over 10 km of trails.

Its 2026–27 calendar includes a Permaculture Design Certification course (4–15 Dec 2026) with a reduced Costa Rican rate, plus natural building and timber frame intensives in early 2027. It is structured as a Costa Rican sociedad anónima rather than a nonprofit.
