An agrihood in Tsawwassen, in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, developed by Century Group, where a walkable community sits beside a large working farm. Most of the site is kept as farmland and forest, so food and farming stay part of everyday community life.
Century Group bought the Southlands site in 1989 and, after a long and contested planning process, set aside most of it for agriculture, with part of the farmland transferred to the local council. Its planning approach, which it calls agricultural urbanism, places housing and a market square at the edge of the farm. Figures for the farmland area vary between sources, from about 300 to over 400 acres.
