Common Wealth Seed Growers is a cooperative of ten farm projects, mostly in central Virginia, that research, breed, produce and sell open-pollinated seed, growing all the seed it sells. It is known for downy-mildew-resistant cucumber, squash, melon and watermelon lines bred for market growers in the Southeast and mid-Atlantic.
Member farms include Twin Oaks Seed Farm and Living Energy Farm in Louisa, Laughing Springs Farm in Boone NC and East Wind Community in Missouri. Breeding work led by Edmund Frost has been supported by SARE and OFRF grants.
