Coopamare (Cooperativa de Catadores Autônomos de Papel, Aparas e Materiais Reaproveitáveis) has collected, sorted and sold cardboard, cans, plastic and glass from the west side of São Paulo since 1989. About 24 members work the site under the Viaduto Paulo VI in Pinheiros, and around 50 to 60 independent cart pullers sell to it. In 2026 it is resisting an eviction order from the city with support from national waste picker movements.
