Desart
Culture first · the peak body for Central Australian Aboriginal art centres
- Community and Voice
Desart is the peak body for Aboriginal art and craft centres in Central Australia, with an office in Alice Springs. Its more than 30 member art centres are community-based enterprises owned and governed by Aboriginal people. Taking a culture-first approach, Desart supports their autonomy and stability through advocacy, business support, training and marketing.
Desart represents its members on boards, committees, art fairs and research. Its business support includes the Strong Business Program, the SAM database for art centres and an annual conference, along with help with infrastructure. The Aboriginal Art Worker Program builds career pathways in the arts. Desart also promotes art centres through Desert Mob, Art Centres on Screen, the Desart Photography Prize and the Vincent Lingiari Art Award.
