Khartoum State's Emergency Response Rooms are volunteer-run neighbourhood groups that began mutual aid on the first day of the 2023 war, across seven districts. They run communal kitchens, medical help and other support, drawing on the Sudanese tradition of nafeer · collective action. The wider ERR network won the 2025 Right Livelihood Award and the 2025 Chatham House Prize.
