Since 1978
The Kimberley Land Council was formed by Kimberley Aboriginal people in 1978 as a political land rights organisation, and is the peak Indigenous body in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. It works with Aboriginal people to secure native title, care for Country through conservation and land management, and develop cultural business enterprises.
The KLC's land and sea work includes the Kimberley Ranger Network, Indigenous Protected Areas, Indigenous fire management, savanna burning carbon projects, a Two-Way Science program and research facilitation, as well as a Women's Ranger Program. It also carries out native title representative body functions and supports Prescribed Bodies Corporate.
