Former employees, residents, unions and local associations requisitioned the closed McDonald's in Sainte-Marthe during the March 2020 lockdown to run food aid. It now operates as a social fast food restaurant, solidarity canteen and food bank, with job-training workshops and a mutual aid platform, and aims to become a cooperative (SCIC).
The City of Marseille moved to buy the building to secure the project. It hosts dignity meals and community events, including the Marseille Sociale et Solidaire Festival on 25 June 2026.
