Since 1994
Northey Street City Farm is a community-based urban permaculture farm in Windsor, Brisbane, started by local residents in 1994. On council-leased land beside Breakfast Creek it runs permaculture and sustainable living workshops, food growing, bush regeneration, a community compost hub, a nursery and an organic farmers market.
The non-profit association works around three values: caring for Earth, caring for people, and learning. Its social enterprises, including the City Farm Nursery and the Northey Street Organic Farmers Market, cover general running costs. After the February 2022 floods it put a flood preparedness plan in place. It also runs youth education and supports staff and volunteers.
