Purple House is an Aboriginal community-controlled health service based in Alice Springs, with bases in Darwin and Perth. It runs dialysis in 20 remote communities across the NT, WA and SA, plus a mobile unit called the Purple Truck, so people can get treatment close to family and Country.
Purple House began in 2000, when Pintupi Luritja people from the Western Desert used more than $1 million raised by an auction of Papunya Tula Artists' works to bring dialysis closer to home. It also provides aged care, primary health care and social support, and runs Bush Balm, which gives free bush medicine to patients and helps pass on cultural knowledge.
