Schumacher College
Ecological learning from Devon, starting a new independent chapter
- Home and Livelihood
Since 1991
Schumacher College is a learning community for ecological and holistic education, founded in 1991 on the Dartington Hall estate near Totnes in Devon. After Dartington Hall Trust closed its academic programs in 2024, the Satish Kumar Foundation took over the College in 2025 as an independent body. It now runs courses while it works towards a new home.
For more than three decades the College offered short courses and postgraduate study in subjects such as regenerative economics and ecological design. In July 2025 the Satish Kumar Foundation bought the College's business assets from Dartington Hall Trust, giving it full independence. Current courses include Handmade Transformation, a hybrid course running from September 2026 to May 2027.
