Since 1989
TreeProject is a Melbourne-based community not-for-profit that trains city volunteers to grow indigenous seedlings in their own backyards. The seedlings go to rural landholders and Landcare groups to revegetate the Victorian landscape, and more than 2 million trees have been sown with the help of over 2,000 growers.
TreeProject began in 1989, when it became a community not-for-profit and held its first public planting at Yarra Bend Park. Volunteer growers receive a grower kit, training and support, and landholders can order seedlings and get help choosing species, sourcing seed and planting. It also runs community and corporate planting days, working bees and nursery grower groups.
