APN Cape York is owned entirely by Southern Wik traditional owners, and its name means "Our father's father's country" in Wik Mungkan. Its ultimate goal is to help Aurukun families return to their traditional homelands, and its rangers care for 3,780 square kilometres of country.
APN Cape York Rangers carry out early-season burning, maintain fire trails, remove feral cattle and pigs, and monitor hundreds of marine turtle nests along the coast between the Love and Kirke Rivers. The organisation also builds and maintains homeland roads and supports knowledge transfer to younger generations, training and economic opportunities, and health and education programs for Wik and Kugu people. Its office is in Cairns.
