The Sawayaka Welfare Foundation in Tokyo has helped set up more than 1,000 community mutual-help groups and pioneered fureai kippu, care-time credits that neighbours earn and spend helping older people. Since 2020 its Community Mutual Aid Fund has granted over ¥125 million to more than 700 local activities. It also organised local aid after the 1995 and 2011 earthquakes.
