Founded by farmer and falconer Tleukabyl Yessembekuly, this association of local farmers in Shet district, Karaganda region, restores natural springs with stone and concrete enclosures and drainage. It sows perennial forage on degraded land (about 30 ha of alfalfa and 200 ha of perennial grasses) irrigated with spring and meltwater, and has restored a dam on the Sakkalbay River.
UNDP and the GEF Small Grants Programme have backed the association with several grants and loans. It also installed a 5 kW hybrid power station and an energy-efficient boiler at the Kairakty school, and plans snow retention, eco-tourism and environmental education for young people.
